Jordan Spieth of Dallas, Kelly Kraft of Denton, Fort Worth's John Peterson and Texas A&Ms Jordan Russell advanced to the Round of 16 at the U.S. Amateur Championship at Erin (Wisc.) Hills GG.
Spieth, the 2009 and 2011 U.S. Junior Amateur champion, defeated Texas A&M sophomore Jade Scott of Daingerfield, Texas, 4-and-3, in the morning match. He clinched his afternoon match against Lee Bedford of Cary, N.C. by winning holes 16 and 17.
Kraft, a recent SMU graduate, defeated Andrew Putnam of University Place, Wash. , 3 and 2, in the afternoon. Peterson, the 2011 NCAA champion from Paschal High, defeated Stephan Jaeger of Germany, 1 up. And Russell of College Station defeated Bryson Dechambeau of Clovis, Calif., 5 and 3.
